 February 29th 2004

Dear Member, Friends and Supporters,

In this our first newsletter for 2004, we wish you a Good Dante year, in the hope that we see a lot of each other in the forthcoming months. Things have good away to a good start and our language classes are about to commence with something on every evening of the week!. As well we are planning a varied and interesting programme of activities and we shall advise you of these in the monthly newsletters.

We now have a web page which will be updated as regularly as possible. So do check it out at www.dantemelbourne.org.au

It is time to renew membership subscriptions, so it would be appreciated if you were to complete the renewal forms which were mailed to you a few weeks ago together with the information on our classes. Memberships are due at the end of March. Those who have already paid will find their bollino enclosed which should be attached to your membership card.

The first function for the year will take the traditional form of a Garden Party at St Mary’s College, at the University of Melbourne, on Sunday, March 14th at 3.00pm. As well as some entertainment, we will explain some aspects of the year’s activities and award prizes for the best students of the three principal Victorian Universities last year. It will be a pleasant opportunity to meet each other in the beautiful garden of St Mary’s. To cover expenses, there is a nominal charge of $10 per person. The College is in Swanston St, on the corner of Tin Alley, almost opposite Elgin St. For catering purposes, please let us know by Thursday March 11th if we might expect to see you there.

The Sede Centrale in Rome is offering one scholarship which we will be awarding to a member of the Society who wishes to do a language course in Italy this year. In the coming weeks we will send to all members a copy of the criteria and selection process.

For the present, a presto
